Sparkling and Shining

My mom came home with me after the holidays and it was just THE. BEST. THING. She helped me clean and organize and get the house put back together after what was a very busy pre-Christmas holidays. Now my house is sparkling and adorable and I feel so much better. Time to relax.

Monday Mornings - 23 Dec 13

First thought: How is it Monday morning again already? This last week of holidays has just flown by in  a blur of Christmas baking, naps, knitting, and laughter.

Second thought: It's Christmas Eve Eve today!

There has been so many things to be thankful for this week because it has just been a week full of solid awesome.

Laughter - Until my face hurts from smiling so much. I am so thankful that I have friends that I can laugh with and that make me laugh.

Sibling bonding - The holidays are a time for family to get together and once in a while we actually have some quality bonding time that includes more than just texting each other funny jokes from across the room.

Seeing old friends - Coming back home always means seeing those friends that you just see every once in a while and it's really good to catch up on what's going on.

Knitting - File this under learning things. I have taught myself to purl and finally finished a scarf that I've been working on for 4 years. Yup, FOUR years. It wasn't even complicated, just one of those things. Working on a new scarf now which will (hopefully) be finished before 4 years are up.

Christmas decorations - Seeing the Christmas decorations go up always makes it feel like Christmas is really here.

So looking forward to the next few days of holidays!

What are some things that you are thankful for this Monday morning?

Monday Mornings - 16 Dec 13

Good morning everyone! I’ve been thinking lately about blessings and thankfulness and how it makes such a big difference to how your day is if you start off with positive thoughts instead of negative thoughts.

Many people dread the Monday return to work (myself often included) and Monday mornings are usually full of negativity and people feeling sorry for themselves. I’ve been there, I’ll be there again and so will many other people but I’m trying to not be there so often.

With that in mind, I thought I might start up a semi-regular post. Monday Mornings. I’d like this to be a post of thankfulness and good things. For if I write down my blessings, then I shall surely feel more positive about the day. Feel free to share the things that you are also thankful for!

(Please do disregard the fact that this posting on a Tuesday. Monday Mornings was inspiration that struck on a Monday afternoon but I just didn’t want to wait until next week.)

Safety – I drove to my parent’s house for Christmas holidays and I saw so many cars in the ditch. The roads were not good and the weather was terrible at points but it was so much better than it could have been and I arrived safely.

Fresh Snow – That light dusting over everything just seems to refresh the landscape and make everything new again. Bonus, for the first few hours I can follow the tracks in the snow to see what trouble my dog is getting into.

Health – This is difficult because there is so much I could write and much of it would not be positive. But even with the bad, there is always good. I can walk around the dog park with my dog, it’s been over a week since my last migraine, I understand my Anatomy & Physiology course so much better because I can relate everything back to my own body.

Technology – My A&P course came with a downloadable textbook! I can work offline and I can make notes and highlight things right in the textbook! I feel like maybe I’m a little behind the times and this isn’t so new but it is seriously good news to not have to lug around a huge textbook.

Community – Whether it be my church community, work community, blogging community….you guys are awesome. There are so many great people out there and when they wander into my life it makes me so happy. I hope that others may be happy when I wander into their lives as well.

What are some things that you are thankful for on this Monday (Tuesday) morning?

The Raspberry Thief

There's an overgrown mess of raspberry bushes in our rented backyard. They are itchy and scratchy but do they ever grow some delicious berries!

Today was the second time I went out to pick them and I noticed there wasn't as many as last time. A bit odd as the season isn't close to being over yet. No matter, I continued picking with a focus on holding my berry bucket in one hand and swatting off mosquitos with the other. At some point I noticed that my dog had come up beside me and was hanging out but I didn't pay too much attention. Mistake. He was rustling around in the bushes so I took a closer look at what he was doing...the little porker was eating the berries right off the bush!

The mystery of the missing raspberries has been solved.

Saturday Sentiments

Today has been one of those lay in bed or curl up on the couch with a heating pad kind of days. Thank goodness for heating pads. I started feeling sick last night but it didn't go away overnight like it usually does. Looks like it will be a full weekend of flare-ups.

So I'm not getting much of the things done that I was supposed to do. I was going to finish an assignment this weekend but realized this morning that it needs to be printed out and done on the actual assignment, then scanned and emailed back. I thought I was good to do it on graph paper and scan that but I probably should have read the instructions. Also, let's be serious, there's no way I could hold a pencil for long enough to finish the assignment anyways, my fingers are protesting just with this typing. So I'll print it on Monday at work and finish it on Monday night.

Despite laying on the couch for most of the day, I did actually get some things done. I did a bunch of research and typed up some notes to bring with me when I go to my rheumatologist's appointment, I made muffins, did all the dishes, fed myself breakfast and lunch (yes, this is an accomplishment worth mentioning) and threw some potatoes in the oven to bake so I have something to eat for supper.

Also, I have this handsome guy following me around all day being extra cute and cuddly.

Ring Splints

Good news! (Hopefully.)

I asked my physio today about getting some ring splints to stop my fingers from being so bendy when I write and now I have a referral to an occupational therapist!

There are different types of ring splints but the most common looks like this.
It fits on your fingers like this.

So that when you use your fingers, they can't bend backwards any more.

My fingers bend at the DIP (distal interphalangeal joint) which is the joint closest to your the end of your finger. Basically, this means that it hurts if I'm writing or typing for a long time or pushing buttons.

My appointment is next Wednesday so hopefully everything goes well!

The Screen Is Melting

It's so hot here that, when I went to grab an illicit snack out of the bag of chocolate chips, the bag just squished in my hand.

My dog has barely moved all day.

I was eating breakfast and my face started sweating.

If I wasn't so concerned about dropping my laptop, I'd spend the rest of the day in the bathtub.
